In 2024, the University of Cape Town sustained a robust programme of public performing-arts activity across its cultural precincts, delivering more than seventy-five public performances by UCT ensembles and affiliated units. Notable public instances included:
- Opera UCT’s season launch (27 Feb 2024)
- a multi-performance staging of Donizetti’s Dalinda (4–8 Sept 2024) at the Baxter Concert Hall,
- the South African College of Music’s Student Showcase (15 Mar 2024)
- The SACM hosted weekly Tuesday evening concerts at the Baxter Concert Hall that start at 19:00.
- Free Lunch Hour Concerts were hosted every Thursday from 13:00–14:00 in the Baxter Concert Hall or in the Chisholm Recital Room (C7) at the College.
- UCT Day’s benefit concert headlined by Professor Dizu Plaatjies (3 Oct 2024)
- The Baxter Zabalaza Theatre Festival 8–16 March 2024 at Baxter: 33 productions / performances in one festival.
- A dance theatre programme “Dance Intersect 2024” by Anderson Carvalho Dance & Choreography at the Baxter Pam Golding Theatre, 6–8 June 2024 - 4 performances.
- An Opera production by Opera UCT: The Turn of the Screw at Baxter, 20–23 November 2024
- A “Morning Melodies” monthly concert series at Baxter Concert Hall (for 5 scheduled dates in 2024) - 28 August, 25 September, 23 October, 20 November, 11 December.
All were hosted on UCT venues (Baxter Theatre & Concert Hall, Michaelis/Hiddingh and SACM venues). These events demonstrate the university’s year-round public arts output and community cultural engagement.
